Camellia Hedges & Cold Hardy Evergreens!
In addition to all the fall color we are seeing on the farm right now, we have several new evergreen additions to our availability. In particular, Distylium x 'Cinnamon Girl’ has a more compact growth habit and smaller leaf than some Distylium varieties, making it a wonderful alternative to a boxwood or other evergreen plants. Especially for northern zones, this particular variety of Distylium has earned a strong reputation for its cold hardiness.
This week we are also highlighting two of our favorite Camellia sasquana varieties that work well as hedges and borders. These varieties work well planted in groups to create a privacy barrier or hedge along a lawn edge.
Camellia sasanqua 'Red Bird' 7g
Camellia sasanqua 'Yoi Machi' 15g
These Camellias are full of buds and are winter hardy, blooming from October to January. With larger sizes still available, now is a perfect time of year to begin planting for screening.
